Pear Tree and Orchard Cottage make an excellent base for an angling break, with some of Herefordshire’s best-known rivers and stillwaters all within easy reach. The Fishing Passport’s Lugg & Arrow beats provide access to a selection of day-ticket fishing, while the Birmingham Anglers Association also offers fishing on the Lugg, including its Marden stretch. For anglers looking for something a little different, the Lugg and Arrow system is particularly attractive for its wild brown trout and grayling fishing, with generally easy wading through much of the catchment.

For coarse anglers wanting to stay closer to Hereford, Hereford & District Angling Association also provides fishing opportunities on the River Wye, river lugg and other local waters. Annual membership and day-ticket options are available, with day tickets obtainable locally from Woody’s Angling Centre.

There are also some excellent stillwater options within easy driving distance. Court Farm Pools at Tillington, around 15 minutes away, offers a quieter stillwater option in attractive countryside, while the famous Docklow Pools, around 20 minutes away, provides a choice of day-ticket lakes.

You can spend one day trotting for chub and barbel on the Wye, explore the Lugg for trout or grayling, or head to a local stillwater for a completely different style of fishing.
